Merit Cum Means Scholarship for Minorities (MBBS & Professional Courses)

School Background This is a government scholarship for MBBS study related to minorities who want to study medical education in India (Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis).

Availability

Each year about 60,000 scholarships are awarded for the eligible students that consists of both fresh scholarships and renewing of the old scholarships.

Eligibility

The Scholarship is awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks in the previous final examination and annual income of their parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs. 1 Lakh.

Category – Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain and Zoroastrians (Parsis)

Benefits

The students who get admission to a college to pursue technical/professional courses, on the basis of a competitive examination will be eligible for the scholarship. 

About 30% scholarship is reserved for girls’ students of each minority community in a State/UT which is transferable to male students of that community in case of non-availability of female students in that community in the concerned State/UT. 30% is the floor and not the ceiling for eligible girl students.  

The scholarship, once awarded, may be renewed during the next academic year of the course on the production of a certificate that the student has secured 50% marks in the previous year’s examination (each semester / trimester of previous year provided the student pursues the same course in the same Institute). 

    National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of SC/ST Students

    The ‘National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of SC/ST Students’ program aims to motivate outstanding SC/ST students to enroll in graduate and postgraduate programs at recognized institutions of excellence, both government and private, acknowledged by the Central Government, State Government, and Union Territory Administration. This scholarship is designed to enhance the educational opportunities for ST students in various professional disciplines, including Management, Medicine, Engineering, Information Technology, and Law.

    Availability:

    Annually, a total of 1,000 new scholarships are granted to deserving ST students.

    Eligibility:

    This scholarship is exclusively available to SC/ST candidates who meet the following criteria:

    ⁍ SC/ST students must have gained admission to the designated institutions in accordance with the guidelines set by those institutions to qualify for the scholarship.

    The candidate’s total family income from all sources must not exceed Rs. 6.0 LPA.

    The scholarship will be disbursed once the student has secured admission and commenced attending classes.

    SC/ST students must have achieved a minimum aggregate of 50% in Class X.

    Benefits:

    The scholarship is available for students enrolled in Class XI and XII, including those in technical and vocational courses at this level, such as Polytechnics and ITIs.

    Once awarded, the scholarship may be renewed for the subsequent academic year, contingent upon the student providing a certificate confirming that they have attained 50% marks in the previous year’s examinations, provided they continue in the same course and institution/school.

    Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University Students

    The ‘Central Sector Scholarship Scheme’ is designed to support academically talented students from low-income families by providing financial assistance for their daily expenses while they pursue higher education.

    Availability:

    Each year, a total of 82,000 new scholarships are granted to deserving students who achieve a minimum of 80% in their SSLC or 10th-grade examinations. This includes approximately 41,000 scholarships for male students and 41,000 for female students, aimed at those undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate studies in colleges and universities, as well as professional courses such as Medicine and Engineering.

    Eligibility:

    Students must have attained 80% marks in their respective stream from the relevant Board of Examination in Class XII of the 10+2 system or an equivalent qualification, and they must be enrolled in regular courses (not through correspondence or distance learning).

    Eligible students should be studying at colleges or institutions recognized by the All India Council of Technical Education, UGC, Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India, and other relevant regulatory bodies.

    Students who are beneficiaries of any other scholarship programs, including state-run scholarship schemes or fee waiver and reimbursement initiatives, are not eligible for this scheme.

    Those enrolled in Diploma courses are also excluded from eligibility.

    Benefits:

    ⁍ The scholarship amount is set at Rs. 10,000 per year for the first three years of undergraduate studies and Rs. 20,000 per year for postgraduate studies.

    For students in professional courses with a duration of five years or integrated programs, Rs. 20,000 per year will be provided during the fourth and fifth years.

    Students in technical fields such as B.Tech and B.E. will receive scholarships up to the completion of their undergraduate studies.

    A minimum of 50% of the scholarships is reserved for female students. The allocation of scholarships to a State Education Board is distributed among graduates from the Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams.

    Documents Required for Scholarship Applications

    Students who meet the eligibility criteria and are seeking scholarships for their MBBS education must submit the following documents:

    1. A marksheet indicating a minimum of 50% marks obtained in the final examination of the previous academic year.

    2. An Annual Family Income Certificate for the last financial year, issued in the prescribed format by an authority not lower than the rank of Tahsildar.

    3. A certificate from the Director, Principal, or Head of the Institute.

    4. A receipt for tuition fees paid.

    5. A bank passbook linked to the AADHAR number, in the student’s name, displaying the account number, IFSC code, and a photograph.

    6. A copy of the AADHAR Card.

    7. A declaration signed by the parents affirming that the information provided regarding their child is accurate and that they will reimburse the scholarship amount if any information is found to be false at any point.
